Volunteer drivers with their own vehicle at Patient Link : Volunteering

We are looking for volunteers to take on a rewarding and vital role with Patient Link.

You can let us know in advance when you are available and the areas you are willing to travel to, primarily Willow Green Surgery (East Preston) and local hospitals. A coordinator will then contact you when a transport request arises to check whether you are available to take the journey.

Once confirmed, you will collect the patient from their home, drive them to their appointment and, if they wish, stay with them in the waiting area. After the appointment, you will return them safely home.

What skills do I need?

Driving, obviously, but mainly the ability to support an older person who may be anxious about what's happening to them. Some users need walking aids - wheelchairs, folding walking frames etc. - but you can state in advance if you are able to manage these.

For some users this may be their only human contact in the week, so a pleasant, open manner is a bonus!

Most appointments are on weekdays, but not all. Most are within a normal working day, but not all. The number of drives you would undertake is a personal decision and completely flexible.
