Trustee

Newell Centre Association

We are looking for new trustees to join our friendly charity and help us continue supporting activities for people in the Chichester area.

As a trustee, you will help guide the charity by:

  • Supporting good governance and responsible decision-making
  • Helping plan activities, services and future priorities
  • Contributing ideas, local knowledge or professional experience
  • Championing the needs and wellbeing of older people in our community
  • Working with fellow trustees to keep the centre welcoming, sustainable and useful for local residents

The Association has been a local charity providing social activities for people over 60 since the 1950’s.  Over the years it has aimed to change with the times and at this time it is again looking how it can best meet the needs of the older population.

About Newell Centre Association

Founded in the 1950s by Mr Charlie Newell and his wife, Marjorie, the Newell Centre Association has a long history of supporting local people aged 60 and over by providing social opportunities, friendship and activities. Over the past 70 years, it has also supported many community groups by making its two owned and managed properties available to hire at competitive rates.

What skills do I need?

Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential.

We would be pleased to hear from experienced professionals who could bring skills in Board-level administration, charity governance, finance, community engagement, events planning, fundraising, or health and safety.

We are equally keen to welcome people who are new to trustee roles and can offer enthusiasm, reliability, fresh ideas, and a commitment to supporting older people in the local community.

Details

There are three to four board meetings each year. Trustees are expected to attend these meetings and allow enough time to read the board papers in advance. Trustees may also be invited to other events, such as the annual members’ Christmas dinner and the AGM. These events are usually held on the second Thursday of the month, alongside the regular monthly members’ meeting. The estimated time commitment is 10 days per year. Our trustees do not have a fixed term of office; however, there is a review every two years to ensure that the Trustee’s input remains beneficial to the organisation and to themselves.
