Treasurer

Littlehampton Fort Restoration Project

The Littlehampton Fort Restoration Project is looking for a Treasurer to look after the charity's money. You will keep the accounts, manage the bank account, track grants and fundraising income against spending, and give the trustees a clear financial picture at each meeting.

This is a voluntary, unpaid trustee position. Training and support are provided, and you do not need to be a qualified accountant.

Key responsibilities:

  • Keep the accounts. Record all income and expenditure accurately, keep receipts and invoices, and reconcile records to the bank statements.
  • Manage banking and payments. Oversee the charity's bank accounts and online payment tools, process approved payments and follow the charity's authorisation rules.
  • Track grants and fundraising. Record grant income, restricted funds and sales (including book sales), and monitor spending against each grant's conditions.
  • Prepare budgets and costings. Work with the Chairman and project lead to cost restoration works and keep a budget against them.
  • Report to the trustees. Present a short financial report at each trustee meeting and at the AGM.
  • Prepare the annual accounts. Produce year-end accounts, arrange any independent examination or audit.
  • Support financial controls. Help the Board keep sensible controls, a reserves approach and insurance in place.
  • Attend trustee meetings and the AGM. Meetings are held roughly every two months, plus the AGM.
  • Carry out any other duties or responsibilities that fit your skills and experience and help the project, as agreed with the Chairman and trustees.

About Littlehampton Fort Restoration Project

The Littlehampton Fort Restoration Project is a dedicated effort to restore and revitalize the historic Littlehampton Fort, a once-proud coastal defense structure overlooking the mouth of the River Arun in West Sussex, England.
Founded in 2011 by local resident Andy Orpin, the project is driven by a passionate team of volunteers who share a vision for the fort’s future.

The primary goal is to arrest the fort’s deterioration and restore its structural integrity. This includes addressing issues like crumbling walls, overgrown vegetation, and potential water damage.

The project also aims to preserve the fort’s historical significance. This involves research into the fort’s construction, military role, and place in local history. Educational resources and interpretive materials will be developed to share the fort’s story with the public.

The Littlehampton Fort Restoration Project represents a community’s commitment to preserving its past. By restoring the fort and transforming it into a vibrant space we aim to ensure that this coastal sentinel continues to stand as a testament to local history for generations to come.
