We are looking for a Finance Trustee to join our core team for an initial two-year term or until the project finishes .
This is a voluntary role requiring only a few hours each month. You do not need to be a professional charity accountant, but you should be comfortable with financial information and able to provide appropriate oversight of the organisation's finances.
You will work closely with the 2 Co-Founders and the core team to help ensure that the organisation remains financially responsible, sustainable and transparent.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate financial oversight to the CIC
- Help the core team understand the CIC’s financial position, key financial risks and ensure we comply with financial responsibilities and processes
- Support in the review of the existing budget
- Monitor income, expenditure and cash flow against the agreed budget.
- Oversee the financial management of grant funding, including monitoring grants received, ensuring funds are used in line with grant agreements and budgets, and providing appropriate oversight of how grant funding is allocated and spent.
- Work with the team to ensure that grant income is properly recorded, tracked and reported, and that expenditure can be clearly evidenced against the purposes for which funding was awarded.
- Help ensure that appropriate processes are in place for approving and monitoring expenditure from restricted or grant-funded income.
- Support the preparation and review of annual accounts and liaise with accountants or other financial advisers where required.
- Contribute to discussions about fundraising, grants, sponsorship

What skills do I need?
We are particularly interested in someone with experience in one or more of the following:
- Finance, accounting, bookkeeping or financial management.
- Budgeting and cash-flow management.
- Managing or overseeing grant funding and restricted funds.
- Small business, social enterprise or charity finances.
- Financial governance or board-level oversight.
- Grant funding or fundraising finances.
You should be:
- Numerate and comfortable asking questions about financial information.
- Able to explain financial issues clearly to people without a financial background.
- Pragmatic, collaborative and willing to get stuck in.
- Interested in our environmental mission and grassroots approach
- Comfortable working with a small organisation where our core team has to be flexible and hands-on.
- Able to commit a few hours each month for the two-year term or as the project requires.
You do not need previous trustee experience. We are more interested in your judgement, enthusiasm and ability to provide sensible financial oversight

Details
The expected commitment is approximately 2–4 hours per month, including core team meetings and preparation.
